Emily Mathis, was born to Lemuel and Ardeen Butler, in Fort Worth, Texas, and lived in Grand
Prairie, Texas until she was sixteen when her family moved to Oklahoma. They later returned to Texas. Her parents taught and preached to her the word of God. She was the second child of
twelve and the first-born girl of nine. Constantly surrounded by God-fearing friends and neighbors, as early as she can remember,
she was always aware of good and evil.
Emily was married to the late
Frank W. Mathis, for over thirty-seven years. Frank died in 2001. She has a daughter and son-in-law, Amelia and Dr. David Start, who live in Grand Rapids, Michigan with their daughter Ashley. She also has a son, Lance Mathis, who lives in Jacksonville,
Florida.
Emily has been writing as a source of therapy. She is a great storyteller. The characters she creates captivate her thoughts. They help
her to escape some of life’s painful memories for a moment. Her stories
mesmerize you into their very realistic world. She brings you right into, and
on the scene. It is easy to imagine “Inventors of Evil” as a movie,
since the story unfolds as though it’s on the big screen. Little Martin
and his friends intrigue you with their tenacity to survive like champions, in such a corrupt world. We are looking forward to her next novel, Who's Watching the Children, knowing that it will be just
as exciting as this one.
